According to a media advisory from November 2017, Tokyo 2020 opened its first venue for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games for public use to celebrate the remaining 1000 day mark for the Paralympic Games. Musashino Forest Sports Plaza will be home to fencing and badminton games during the Olympics and host wheelchair basketball games during the Paralympics.

Musashino Forest Sports Plaza was built according to the Accessibility Guidelines for Tokyo 2020 and offers a capacity of over 10,000 people. It includes a swimming pool, a gym, a multi-use sports area and 2 fitness studios.

Opening Ceremony in November 2017 featured olympic and paralympic athletes performing demonstrations of their respective sports and offered an opportunity for the public to get in a chair to try wheelchair basketball for the first time, too.
